Why Fit Testing is Critical for N95 Masks
Understanding NIOSH & Fit Testing
NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) sets the standard for N95 filtration efficiency, ensuring that N95 respirators can filter at least 95% of airborne particles. However, NIOSH does NOT test mask fit—this means that while an N95 mask is certified for filtration, it must be fit-tested to ensure a proper seal on the wearer’s face.
What Happens If an N95 Mask Doesn't Fit Properly?
❌ Air leaks around the edges of the mask.
❌ Reduced protection from airborne contaminants.
❌ Increased exposure to hazardous particles, putting workers at risk.
The only way to ensure proper fit and maximum protection is through a quantitative fit test.
