Disinfect: How To Clean Your Phone

Have you thought about disinfecting your phone lately?

We have done a great job of wearing masks and washing our hands when we have had contact with others, and even when we get home. But have you disinfected your phone? Phones can harbour viruses and germs just like other hard surfaces. We often remember to wash our hands but unless we also disinfect other hard surfaces we commonly handle we can still become infected.

There are a number of various disinfectants, which can also be seen here (use as directed). Average screen times (pre-covid) were in the 3 1/2 hour per day range. It has increased anywhere between 30 - 60%. We’re handling our phones more than ever before.

If we put our phone down and it gets contaminated and we pick it up we can continue the spread. There are a number of options for disinfectant wipes available through PPE Online, but please check with your phones manufacturer for recommended cleaning methods before using any product.

For most phones, experts recommend to:

1. Unplug the device before cleaning

2. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with soap and water

3. Don't spray cleaners directly onto the device.

4. Avoid aerosol sprays and cleaning solutions that contain bleach or abrasives.

5. Keep liquids and moisture away from any openings on the device.

Again, check with your manufacturer for cleaning instructions. Stay Safe Canada!
